Once kept; always kept. Jude 1:1

 In my studies in Jude, I came across these three powerful words, called, beloved and kept. But it was the word "kept" that got my attention. Why? Because in the Greek text the verb kept is a perfect tense verb. That means we are kept because of an action in the past that has present and lasting results. We were kept, we are being kept, and we will continue to be kept. "Once kept; always kept."

My sins I hate; God's grace I love

      Someone said, I believe it was Sproul, that the closer we draw to God, the more sinful we see ourselves. It is true. It makes sense, doesn't it? God is holy and perfect, we are not. We are holy and righteous in that we have the imputed righteousness of Christ, i.e., God has written down on our heavenly account, so to speak, that we are right with Him through faith in His Son. Imputed righteousness is as good as literally being righteous in the eyes of our heavenly Father. I'll take it. His righteousness has become our righteousness.     I sin, you sin, all God's children sin. Proverbs 7:20 says, " There is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins." Romans 7:24-8:4 makes it plain that though we continue to sin, the finished work of Christ has made us righteous. We are not under law but under grace. What is the Biblical gift of tongues?

 I once heard a young lady say that she had been taught how to speak in tongues but was embarrassed by the sound of her "tongues." Our small group leader asked her to speak her "new language," and she hesitatingly did. It was a one syllable sound repeated over and over again. It was "dadadadadadadada," said very quickly. The leader and others told her it was the gift of tongues. And everyone went home convinced that this young lady had the genuine gift of tongues. Dear reader, that was not the Biblical gift of tongues no matter how one might spin it. It was gibberish foisted upon a novice by deceived people who thought (sincerely) that everyone is supposed to speak in tongues. A cursory reading of 1 Corinthians 12 and 14 would have told them otherwise.  And that is an excellent segue into my next point, people caught up in the Charismatic Movement as well as those in the Pentecostal Movement and the Word of Faith Movement are given to taking Scripture out
